Accessorize with plant power that supports nature conservation

What began as a meet up with a friend turned into something more. I was introduced to the tagua plant and instantly felt a connection to it.

Tagua (a.k.a. vegetable ivory) comes from the seed pod of palms native to mi tierra, Colombia, as well as Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru!

Some people call it a nut, but tagua is actually a seed. The seeds naturally fall to the forest floor as the palms grow. From there, the seeds can be collected without cutting down trees or disturbing the surrounding habitat. After harvesting, the seeds are left in the sun to dry and harden. During this process, the tagua seed reveals a brown, flaky skin and a smooth, hard white interior that looks very similar to animal ivory. The unique texture and appearance of tagua has long been used to create beautiful jewelry.

Now, I’ve created my own spin on the craft, making a collection that allows you to carry the magic of nature with you wherever you go.

  • Tagua palms play a vital role in rainforest ecosystems. Unlike destructive industries such as palm oil or timber harvesting, tagua can be sustainably collected year after year without harming the trees. This encourages the preservation and care of rainforest land, helping to prevent deforestation and protect biodiversity.

  • One of the most powerful benefits of tagua is its role in wildlife conservation. By providing a natural alternative to animal ivory, tagua helps reduce demand for elephant ivory and contributes to a decline in poaching. Choosing tagua supports a future where elephants and other wildlife are protected rather than exploited.

Additionally, healthy rainforests provide critical habitats for countless species of primates, birds, reptiles, and insects that depend on these ecosystems to survive. Tagua truly offers a win-win for wildlife and conscientious consumers.

  • The tagua nut industry also supports sustainable livelihoods for local communities. Harvesting, processing, and crafting tagua products provide income opportunities that allow artisans and cooperatives to thrive while preserving traditional skills and cultural heritage.

When consumers choose tagua, they help promote fair trade practices and encourage economic systems rooted in respect for people, culture, and the environment.

  • Lightweight and dyeable, tagua nuts also offer a meaningful alternative to plastic. Plastic pollution continues to damage ecosystems worldwide, from oceans to rainforests. By choosing tagua instead of plastic-based materials, we move forward with more responsible consumer habits that prioritize the health of our planet.

  • The jewelry’s metal components are made of Stainless steel which is considered a more eco-friendly option in jewelry because it is highly durable, long-lasting, and fully recyclable. Its resistance to tarnish and corrosion means pieces tend to have a longer lifespan, reducing waste over time.

Each piece is finished with 18K Gold PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating. This process is more environmentally friendly compared to traditional plating methods. PVD uses less toxic chemicals, produces less waste, and creates a durable finish that resists fading and chipping, which also extends the life of the jewelry. The stainless steel components are manufactured in the United States with strict supplier standards in place to ensure compliance with ethical labor practices and safe working conditions.
